Exploring Summerlin’s Open Spaces

Did you know that Summerlin has about one-third of its total land area as open space? So, when you head to this beautiful space, you can expect to find a mini-park, trail parks, or golf course. All of the major parks in the community feature recreational activities.

The Summerlin community features tons of street-side trails that serve as the cornerstone of the Summerlin Trail System. One of the street-side trails that is worthy of exploring in Summerlin is the Hualapai Canyon Trail.

About Hualapai Canyon Trail

Nestled along the Alta Drive, Hualapai Canyon Trail is a 1.1-kilometer loop that features moderate traffic perfect for all skill levels. When you get here, you would realize that the park is not often seen by those who frequently pass by the Alta Drive. However, despite being at the heart of the suburbs, the park has tons of wildlife that the family can enjoy. Plus, you can also get to see a good collection of desert plants, such as the compass barrel cactus (note that these thorny plants would often point south)

Note that the trail is not as hardcore as what you can expect when you hike the Red Rock Canyon. But it is an excellent choice if you want to take a leisurely walk or jog. If you have kids, the area is also perfect for practicing on their scooters.

What To Expect in Hualapai Canyon Trail

The trail is less than one mile. If you are looking for a more intense hiking experience, you cannot find it here. Instead, the path is best for an evening stroll, light biking, or a quick jog only. Despite being short, the trail is well-landscaped and has tons of lighting. You can find the trailhead on the Hualapai Way, a little north of Alta.

Since the hike is short but sweet, you can expect to finish the whole loop in under ten minutes. If you have plenty of time, you can sit on the benches and enjoy the desert landscape, ideal if you want to take a breather.
